Here at DroneUp, we’re thrilled to announce the FAA’s decision to designate our company as an Unmanned Aircraft System Service Supplier (USS) authorized to provide Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC). LAANC capability will be available in-app through Airspace Planner providing the next level of efficiency for complete drone pilot management.
Since April 2018, we’ve been facilitating LAANC requests through a partnership with AirMap. It has always been our hope to develop an efficient, one-stop solution for our pilots. With this update, we’ve streamlined the LAANC request process and added additional tools that make for improved user experience.
Through our Airspace Planner, pilots can…
- Create flight plans within FAA-controlled Flight Information Regions (FIR);
- Instantly request LAANC approval; and
- Verify insurance for DroneUp missions.
DroneUp has made it a point to offer essential compliance and regulatory features on our platforms. This announcement underscores that commitment, and we’re excited to improve the safety of our pilots, our customers, and the public at large.

This new process is a vast improvement from the manual waiver process established in 2016. Applications for airspace authorizations were tedious and could take up to 90 days to be approved. With LAANC, Part 107 users will be able to create an automatically approved plan from within the DroneUp app.
The process is straightforward, simply requiring users to enter their first and last name, a verified phone number and their drone’s registration code with the FAA. They can create flight plans for up to 90 days in advance. These airspace plans are processed through the DroneUp app, which alerts pilots via push notification if their plans have been approved, rescinded, or invalidated. Additionally, they’ll be notified via SMS if their LAANC authorization is processed or updated, or if the airspace rules have been changed.
