June 23, 2017

At the end of summer 2016, the FAA implemented new regulations requiring commercial drone pilots to obtain remote pilot certification. Getting the certification requires successfully completing a test at one of the 690 FAA approved centers. Why would you want to get certified?

So, how do you go about preparing for this aeronautical knowledge based exam? What are the requirements? How much is it?! Are there any other perks?

The Requirements

There aren’t many, just a few key things that you’ll need to be able to do to get the ball rolling… and the drone flying!

  1. You have to be at least 16 years old.

  2. Pass the TSA security check (no lines required).

  3. Pass the aeronautical test every 2 years.
